How do I choose the right propane forge burner? +
Match the burner's BTU output to your forge volume. A general rule is 25–35 BTU per cubic inch of forge interior. For most small forges (200–400 cubic inches), a single 30,000–80,000 BTU venturi burner works well. Larger forges may need multiple burners or a forced-air system.
What is the difference between venturi and forced-air burners? +
Venturi burners draw air through the burner tube using gas pressure alone — they are simpler, cheaper, and require no electricity. Forced-air burners use a blower fan to push air in, offering better flame control and higher heat output, but they require electricity and are more complex.
What BTU output do I need for my forge? +
Calculate your forge interior volume in cubic inches and multiply by 25–35 BTU. For example, a forge that is 12"×6"×6" (432 cubic inches) needs approximately 10,800–15,120 BTU. A single 30,000 BTU burner would be more than sufficient.
Can I use a propane forge burner indoors? +
Propane forge burners should only be used in well-ventilated areas. Indoor use requires proper ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Always follow local fire codes and manufacturer safety guidelines.
